Whats in a Name?

July 5th, 2010

"Cute as a Button"While researching appropriate names for two  solid white cats with beautiful long coats, the subject of naming pets popped up.  The names of the pets seen at Fondren 5 Star Kennels have kept in line with the findings of  Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI), the nation’s largest and oldest provider of pet health insurance http://www.petinsurance.com/healthzone/pet-articles/new-pets/Most-Popular-Pet-Names.aspx for top selections.

Max was the most popular dog name for six years in a row, according to VPI and in 2009 came in second to Bella.   Max, Sam, Jake and Buddy are our most popular male names while Bella, Bailey and Annie were chosen most for female pets.  We suggest there are many factors to consider when naming pets such as size, breed, color, gender, geographic location, pop culture as well as the personalities of the pet and those of the people doing the naming.

While keeping a name short ( one or two syllables) and an ending in “y” ,”i” or “ie” are long held traditions in pet naming, there are an abundance of pet names using other conventions.

Below are some general categories with a sampling of pet names from our own data base.  Please keep in mind these terms of endearment are from the pets of our own friends and families:

Doggie Day Care – A Dog’s Dream!

May 6th, 2010
We invite your dog to experience off-leash play with our 5 Star Doggie Day Care

Running and playing off-leash with other dogs is a dog’s dream!  Doggie Day Care play groups make this dream come true and provides benefits for dogs and owners too!

A mix of indoor activities in an air conditioned romper room setting plus an outside area or a field to roam in an outdoor dog park make for one tired pooch at the end of the day.

The attributes of a Day Care play group cannot be  compared with games of fetch in the back yard or walks on leash around the  neighborhood.  Doggie Day Care allows  both freedom and opportunity for dogs to do what comes naturally in a pack of their own kind.

Groupings of reliably friendly dogs (neutering is required) are paired with trained and experienced staff who monitor and manage the group.  Before rough play or disagreements can escalate, dogs are selected for “time outs” away from the group or “call outs” to diffuse the unwanted behavior or activities of specific dogs.

To determine if  your dog is a qualified candidate for a Doggie Day Care group  contact Fondren 5 Star kennels at 281-835-4445 and make your dog’s dream come true!
